Upgraded Uragan Meets Expectations

The upgraded Uragan multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) was successfully tested at the Osipovichsky range. The Uragan has been modernised by enterprises of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry (SAMI).

Due to in-depth modernisation, performance characteristics have been significantly improved. The upgraded MLRS has new chassis, modern navigation systems, communication assets, data transmission equipment, positioning systems and many other things.

According to Maj. Gen. Gennady Kozlovsky, Chief of Rocket Troops and Artillery – Chief of the Armed Forces Directorate for Rocket Troops and Artillery of the General Staff, the launches were successful, the rockets hit the targets with high accuracy.

“Tests met all expectations,” Gennady Kozlovsky summed up. “The upgraded Uragan is acceptable for our troops. Thanks to the new chassis, it has improved cross-country capacity, and is more maintenance-friendly. Its changeover from travelling position to fire position is faster. These were only preliminary tests. Some elements of the vehicle will be developed in the not so distant future. After the state tests are soon passed, this weapon will enter service with the Belarusian Army.”

Belarusian Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Andrei Ravkov, Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defence Minister Maj. Gen. Oleg Belokonev and representatives of SAMI observed the tests.
