Space is in Sight of SAMI

On 9 June 2022, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Nur-Sultan) hosted the 3rd meeting of the Interstate Council on Space (in the videoconference format).

Representatives of the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee participated in the Council meeting.

On behalf of the State Authority for Military Industry, Vladimir Tsalko, Chairman of the Radio Navigation Interstate Council, consultant of SAMI Department of Weapons, Military and Special Equipment Production (Modernisation) of the Directorate of Weapons, Military and Special Equipment Development took part in the discussion of the agenda of the Council meeting.

The members of the Interstate Council on Space considered a draft concept of the interstate cooperation programme of CIS member States for the provision and use of space products and services for the period up to 2030. They also discussed the development of further cooperation in the development of the ground infrastructure of the GLONASS satellite system, regulatory and technical support for space projects, and legislative regulation of activities in the area of Earth remote sensing.

The meeting discussed the development of systems for monitoring man-made pollution of near-earth space and the conduct of space monitoring of rational use of agricultural land. The participants discussed the issue of including space agencies of the CIS member States in the International Charter Space and Major Disasters, as well as issues of training personnel in the space sphere.
The Council noted the successful activities of Peleng JSC in developing target equipment for spacecrafts for Earth remote sensing.

The CIS Executive Committee noted the positive experience of cooperation between the Interstate Council on Space and the Radio Navigation Interstate Council in developing ground infrastructures that use GLONASS signals, as well as the participation of AGAT – Control Systems JSC – Managing Company of Geoinformation Control Systems Holding in the development of the project «Сreation of a navigation service with increased accuracy for consumers in CIS member states”, in the successful operation during the reporting period of the GLONASS global satellite navigation system signal correction and monitoring station, and the development and organisation of serial production of a number of samples of navigation equipment for vehicles.
The Interstate Council on Space has approved SAMI work in 2021-2022 in the field of peaceful uses of space and navigation activities.

The representative of the Russian Federation and Director General of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin was elected Chairman of the Interstate Council on Space for the next year.
