Sfera Enters Trial Operation
Trial operation of the Sfera automated airspace planning and traffic flow control system has commenced at the Minsk Air Traffic Control Centre. The system was developed and integrated by AGAT – Control Systems JSC.
The launch of the system marks a new phase in the digital transformation of the Republic of Belarus’s air traffic control infrastructure. Sfera is designed to serve as a unified digital framework for strategic, pre-tactical, and tactical airspace planning, as well as air traffic flow management, delivering an unprecedented level of automation across the sector.
This solution is a multifunctional tool covering the full airspace planning cycle. The Sfera system automates key processes, including:
- strategic, pre-tactical, and operational (tactical) planning of routes and zones;
- air traffic flow management considering workload and priorities;
- information support for the ATC automation system;
- collection and processing of actual flight data within designated areas of responsibility.
Its functionality also supports seamless exchange of planning, control, air navigation, and reference data with civil aerodromes, local control centres, air traffic control authorities, and airspace users.
A key architectural advantage of the solution is its scalability: depending on infrastructure requirements and hardware configuration, the system can efficiently serve both local control units and large regional sectors with high traffic volumes.
The platform incorporates advanced engineering and software solutions. Sfera operates as a unified system with real-time data exchange without loss of speed or accuracy, leveraging “quiet control room” technology, distributed computing, and a decision-support subsystem.
Following successful trial testing, the system will transition into full operational service.
