Promoting Military-Technical Cooperation

From 16 to 18 September 2014, Minsk hosted the fifth session of the Belarus-UAE joint committee for military-technical cooperation.

On 16 September, Chairman of the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee (Goscomvoyenprom) Sergei Gurulyov met with Chief of Logistics Staff, UAE Armed Forces GHQ, Saleh Mohammed al Balushi who headed the delegation.

Sergei Gurulyov welcomed that the two countries have boosted collaboration, as well as military-technical cooperation.

The parties confirmed their willingness to further military-technical cooperation. It was mentioned that the countries have considerable potential for expanding cooperation in the field of innovations and high technologies.

The sides agreed to advance current projects implementation and to start new projects that will fully implement the capabilities of both Belarusian and foreign arms-makers.

The participants discussed the implementation of past agreements and joint advanced projects.

UAE delegation visited Belarusian defence companies.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed, which stipulates promising mutual projects and procedures of the further cooperation.

Belarus-UAE joint committee for military-technical cooperation was established under intergovernmental agreement on military-technical cooperation, signed in 2007. It is designed to implement joint programmes.

The production of Peleng (fire control systems for armoured vehicles) and Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant (special-purpose vehicles) is well-known in UAE.

Since 1999, Belarusian defence companies have displayed their products at the biggest defence exhibition IDEX in Abu Dhabi, at DUBAI AIRSHOW and INTERSEC - largest international exhibition for security, safety and fire protection. On the other hand, military authorities of UAE visit MILEX - the most prominent Belarusian show, which is organised by the State Military Industrial Committee.
