New Level of MLRS Control

The “Grad” and “Uragan” multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) will become faster and more accurate. The automated control and guidance system (ACGS) developed by VOLATAVTO JSC for the modernisation of these MLRS and their variants has successfully completed research trials.

The new ACGS is capable of automatically performing topographic and geodetic referencing, orientation and guidance of the guidance package for a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) combat vehicle at a firing position, as well as generating commands for target engagement. Automated guidance of the cluster of rocket launchers in both the horizontal and vertical planes, combined with the incorporation of corrections based on burst-detection results, has improved the accuracy of shell strikes. The system minimises the set-up/tear-down time and the firing time of the combat vehicle, and improves crew safety, as they can now direct fire without leaving the cab.

The key advantages of the new ACGS include the ability to deploy the combat vehicle to an unprepared firing position directly from the march, the reception of target designation from a higher-level command post and from reconnaissance equipment, and ease of installation. The system consists of a tablet with specialised software and compact units. Its installation does not require any major modifications to the combat vehicle's standard design.
