Modernised Rumba Confirms Its Declared Characteristics
On 8 July, the first flight tests of the upgraded supersonic 9M114BM Rumba anti-tank guided missile were conducted at the 230th Obuz-Lesnovsky range. The missile is designed to destroy various types of armored vehicles, low-flying air targets, defenсеs, low-tonnage surface targets, as well as manpower in shelters and open areas.
The main aim of the anti-tank guided missile modernisation, which had been carried out by the specialists of BSVT – New Technologies LLC, was to improve the tactical and technical characteristics of the anti-tank guided missile in terms of reliability, accuracy and efficiency of use.
During the R&D activities, all obsolete radio technical parts in the rocket were replaced with modern and reliable components, which made it possible to improve the characteristics of the ammunition in control and flight range.
During the flight tests, the launches were made from the Shturm-S anti-tank guided missile system using a specially developed technique, which included firing at maximum and minimum ranges, as well as targeting an armored vehicle. According to the results of preliminary and flight tests, all the tactical and technical characteristics of the missile declared by the developer were confirmed. In particular, the missile’s controlled flight range reached 6,000 metres.
