Military-Economic Cooperation within CSTO Framework Discussed in Bishkek

The 15th meeting of the Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 8 June 2017.
The meeting, which was chaired by Dmitry Rogozin, Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Commission, was attended by CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov, as well as heads of the national parts of the Commission. The Belarusian delegation was led by Dmitry Pantus, Goscomvoyenprom Deputy Chairman and head of the Belarusian part of the Commission.
Within the framework of the approved agenda, the participants discussed the implementation of the decisions taken at the previous meeting, which took place in May last year in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, as well as specified the tasks of the national parts for the forthcoming period.
A number of important decisions on further deepening and improving multilateral military-economic cooperation of the CSTO member states have been taken at the meeting.
In particular, decisions have been taken to approve the plan for organising activities on standardisation of armament and military equipment within the CSTO framework till 2025, as well as to organise activities to improve the quality of military products that are jointly developed and manufactured by the CSTO member states’ companies and organisations.
The participants specified the tasks of the national parts of the Commission on establishing a mechanism for practical implementation of cooperation in the joint production of military products of companies whose specialisation should be preserved in the interests of military-economic cooperation among the CSTO member states.
The meeting considered issues related to organising and conducting joint research and development within the CSTO framework, as well as providing access to the high-accuracy signal of the Russian global satellite system GLONASS.
Summing up the results of the meeting, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin noted that the parties had also discussed further development of activities. The work related to intellectual activity and the creation of unified standards, as well as the speedy introduction of the achievements of research institutes of the CSTO member states are of particular importance.
The next meeting of the Commission will be held in Kazakhstan in August 2018.
