Intergovernmental Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation with Thailand Enters into Force

On 6 October 2016, the Council of the Republic approved the ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on Military-Technical Cooperation (hereinafter referred to as the Agreement), which was presented to senators by Chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee (Goscomvoyenprom) Sergei Gurulev.
The Agreement, which was signed on 26 February 2016 in Minsk, serves as the basis for developing the legal framework of military-technical cooperation between the two countries and creates favourable conditions for the development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation and promotion of Belarusian-made military products to the Thailand market.
According to Sergei Gurulev, the document provides for cooperation between defence companies of the two countries, which includes a variety of activities: research and development, production and supply of arms and military equipment, provision of services in the areas of mutual interest, as well as training of military personnel and specialists.
In particular, he noted that Goscomvoyenprom was carrying out planned and consistent work with foreign partners to expand foreign trade markets.
“At present we have military-technical cooperation ties with 48 countries,” said the Goscomvoyenprom chairman.
According to Gurulev, the ratification of the agreement will allow companies to be more active in the promising Thailand market and help to increase the export of Belarusian-made products to this country as well.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed the Law of the Republic of Belarus No. 423-Z “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on Military-Technical Cooperation” on 18 October 2016.
The text of the Agreement is published on the Belarusian National Legal Internet Portal on 20 October 2016.
