Goscomvoyenprom Chairman and Egypt’s Military Production Minister Discuss Military-Technical Cooperation

An official Egyptian delegation led by Minister of Military Production Mohamed Al Assar visited Belarus on 12-15 March 2017. The delegation included representatives of various spheres. On 13 March, Chairman of the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee (Goscomvoyenprom) Sergei Gurulev held talks with Mohamed Al Assar. They discussed ways of developing bilateral military-technical cooperation. According to Sergei Gurulev, this has been the third meeting of the two ministers in 2017. Gurulev stressed that “Egyptian specialists will visit a number of Goscomvoyenprom companies where they will be able to assess… the capabilities” of the industry. He stressed that during the visits it would be possible to explore the prospects for cooperation “taking into account the needs of the Egyptian side and learn how our country develops the defence industry.” For his part, Mr. Mohamed Al Assar thanked the Belarusian side for the warm welcome and noted that in January 2017 Belarus and Egypt had agreed to establish bilateral production cooperation with the use of Belarusian technologies and experience. He also said that his visit was a follow-up to the state visit to Cairo of the Belarusian delegation led by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, which took place in January this year. The parties signed a set of documents on the development of cooperation in various fields, including a memorandum of understanding in the field of military-technical cooperation. During the talks in Minsk, the parties noted the need to further improve the legal framework for bilateral military-technical cooperation and outlined promising areas for further cooperation that have a practical focus.
