Display Design Bureau Presents New Products at IMDS 2017
The eighth International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS 2017), which is one of the world’s leading exhibitions in the field of shipbuilding and naval weapons, finished in St Petersburg on 2 July.
IMDS 2017 was attended by 57 official delegations from 52 states. Almost all countries engaged in the production and operation of marine equipment were represented there. The event was visited by the Vietnamese president, four commanders of naval forces (fleets) of the maritime powers, and other high-ranking officials.
A total of 443 companies from 31 countries, 50 of which are foreign companies, participated in the IMDS 2017 exhibition.
Belarus was represented by companies of various departmental subordination and ownership – the Kontakt Research and Production Company, the Scientific and Technical Centre LEMT BelOMO, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.
The Goscomvoyenprom companies were traditionally represented by the Display design bureau, which has already earned great reputation among marine industry companies due to a number of successful projects.
One of the main activities of the Display design bureau is the production of information display devices, including multipurpose video monitors that meet the requirements for the operation of systems in motion and operate in marine conditions. In total, the company has developed and productionised more than 90 types of LCD video monitors with a screen diagonal of 6.5″ to 98″.
It should be noted that the company modernised the video monitors it manufactures. The requirements for the operability of products in conditions of low temperatures were met. This was made possible due to the introduction of the LCD ruggedisation (hardening) technology. The operating capability of the products using such LCDs is in the low temperature range (operating temperature is to minus 50°C, limit temperature is to minus 65°C).
IMDS 2017 became a demonstration platform for the latest projects of the Vitebsk-based defence company. Among them are special-purpose panel computers with a screen diagonal of 19 and 20 inches that use the Elbrus-2S+ processor and are designed for information processing, storing and display in harsh environments.
The development of new products is being carried out jointly with MCST, a company that develops the Elbrus processors, within the framework of the import substitution programme
The panel computers using the Elbrus processors have prospects on the Russian market in connection with the transition of the electronic industry to domestically produced componentry.
A significant part of the exhibition stand was devoted to the use of modern technologies for the development of microdisplays based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), as well as the production of miniature controllers and the possibilities of manufacturing microdisplay indication systems based on them.
This direction was represented by the HMD-06.3 monocular microdisplay system in the Tactical Glasses design solution, as well as by the gas and smoke protection digital system based on the microdisplay indication system.
The HMD-06.3 was developed within the framework of the Automated Troop Command Systems concept. Now the system is going through field tests. The device is equipped with a colour display with a screen resolution of 800×600 pixels and is capable of receiving video and photo from any electronic devices via built-in Wi-Fi. Battery life is more than two hours.
Another advanced product developed by the Vitebsk-based company, which was displayed at IMDS 2017 in St Petersburg, is the PC-550 touch-screen computer-monitor. This is a large 55″ tablet computer. It has the IP64 protection class, operates at a temperature from minus 40 to plus 55 degrees Celsius, and is equipped with a multi-touch IR-sensor that responds to touches with gloved fingers or with any solid object having a diameter of more than 8 mm.
The company displayed the marine variant of the ADUNOK automated remote-controlled surveillance/firing system. The system is designed specifically for marine operating conditions and is intended to conduct surveillance and control armament on sea vessels.
Customers from the CIS countries have already evaluated the capabilities of the marine automated system. In July 2014, the Project 0210 Aybar fast patrol boat Karagandy of the Kazakhstan state border service was equipped with the ADUNOK weapon station with a 12.7-mm machine gun. In April 2016, the Sarbaz border patrol ship was also equipped with the weapon station.
Within the framework of the congress and business section, the Display design bureau held a seminar called “Display. 30 years. The present and the future. Information processing and display systems for marine and arctic applications. Weapon stations”, which was attended by representatives of Russian companies, including from the Northwestern Federal District.
At the international exhibition, the management of the Display design bureau held several dozens of talks and constructive business meetings with traditional and potential customers and partners.
The results of IMDS 2017 demonstrate that the exhibition enjoys high demand from marine industry companies. The event confirmed its high status and place in the world system of arms and equipment exhibitions.
