CSTO Member States Discuss Military-Economic Cooperation in Almaty

On 7 September 2018, the 16th session of the Interstate Commission on Military-Economic Cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation was held in Almaty (Kazakhstan).
The meeting, which was chaired by Amaniyaz Yerzhanov, Vice-Minister of Defence and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan and head of the national part of the Commission, was attended by CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov, Russia’s Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Oleg Ryazantsev, Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Vladimir Drozhzhov, Deputy Defence Minister of Armenia David Pakhchanyan, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of Kyrgyzstan Alymbek Orozbekov. The Belarusian delegation was led by Goscomvoyenprom Deputy Chairman and head of the Belarusian part of the Commission Dmitry Pantus.
After the welcome speech, Kazakh Defenсe and Aerospace Industry Minister Beibut Atamkulov noted in his report that Kazakhstan’s chairmanship focused on the development of the regulatory and legal framework and international status enhancement of the organisation. During the meeting, the participants considered the deepening of military-economic and military-technical cooperation. The measures to ensure security and enhance the defence capacity of the CSTO member states were discussed.
The CSTO member states supported the proposal of the Belarusian national part of the Commission on the necessity of the improvement of the CSTO Collective Security Council’s Draft Decision “On the Concept of a comprehensive approach to assuring and controlling the quality of military products developed and manufactured jointly within the framework of the CSTO during all their life cycle” by the Kazakh national part in cooperation with the Belarusian and Russian ones. Summing up the results of the meeting, the participants signed a relevant Protocol. The next meeting of the Commission will be held in Armenia (the city of Yerevan) in September 2019.
