Belarusian KB Radar contracts to sell radio warfare station during MILEX 2017

The Belarusian defense contractor KB Radar signed a contract for the delivery of a radio warfare station Groza-S during the defense technology expo MILEX 2017, BelTA learned from Valery Gordei, KB Radar's Deputy Director for Radio Control and Radio Warfare. According to the source, a contract for selling a Groza-S radio warfare station was signed during MILEX 2017. Several other contracts were signed half a year ago. “We cannot disclose the buyer's country. It is privileged information,” said Valery Gordei. In addition to disrupting communications between a UAV and the operator, the Belarusian radio warfare station Groza-S can spoof the UAV's navigation systems. Only a handful of countries have the technology. The station can detect any unmanned aerial vehicles with onboard data transmission systems. It can suppress control links and data transfer links. Apart from that, the Belarusian station can use spoof countermeasures to blind the UAV's GPS-powered navigation system in order to control the UAV's navigation. During MILEX 2017 the Belarusian defense contractor KB Radar also demonstrated a portable version of the radio warfare station. Dubbed as Groza-R, it is designed to fight multicopters and small UAVs by disrupting their control links and jamming their satellite-powered navigation systems. The portable station looks like a heavily modified rifle. The user can aim the rifle at a UAV and press the trigger. The UAV can no longer be controlled then and drops to the ground or lands. Groza-R is designed to suppress radio frequencies of the GPS and GLONASS navigation systems. Groza-R can suppress UAV navigation systems up to 5km away and radio control links up to 2km away. “The rifle has been successfully tested and is slated for batch production. We have not signed any sales contracts during the expo yet, but we see strong interest on the part of domestic and foreign customers,” noted Valery Gordei. The eighth international defense technology expo MILEX 2017 is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 20-22 May. Nearly 140 companies from Belarus, Germany, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine took part in the expo.
