Belarus-Russia Military-Technical Integration to Be Brought to New Level of Interregional Cooperation

From 14 to15 July 2015, a delegation of the Russian Federation was on a working visit to Minsk. The delegation included Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexander Potapov and General Director of Rosoboronexport Anatoly Isaikin. The delegation held talks with Chairman of the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee Sergei Gurulyov.

The parties analysed the current state of military-technical cooperation between Belarus and Russia, focusing on the conceptual approaches of its further development in the medium term, as well as discussed and developed a coordination procedure for military-technical cooperation with third countries.

A separate issue at the talks was the development of cooperation ties between the organisations of the two countries and creation of effective mechanisms that will provide fuller use of economic, industrial, scientific and technological potential with the aim to broaden cooperation.

To provide more dynamics while addressing these issues the parties offer to fully use the mechanisms of the Belarus-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Military-Technical Cooperation

The participants of the meeting stated that the integration between Belarus and Russia in military-technical sphere would continue to grow and reach a new level of interregional cooperation. The countries have a favourable environment for the integration: the legislation in this area is harmonised and allows the countries feel confident about the future, increase the opportunities for cooperation with the aim of strengthening the defence capabilities and act in the markets of third countries in a coordinated manner, so the process is manageable, but there are some technical problems and minor difficulties caused by a rapidly changing environment. The parties hope to settle these issues very soon.

Following the talks, the parties signed the minutes of the meeting.
