Belarus and Thailand Sign Intergovernmental Agreement on Military-Technical Cooperation

A Thai governmental delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan visited Belarus from 25 to 27 February 2016 at the invitation of the chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee. The delegation included representatives of the Thai defence ministry and commands of the Royal Thai Armed Forces branches.
It is worth mentioning that the visit of such a high-level Thai delegation to Belarus took place for the first time.
There are no closed topics in Belarus-Thailand cooperation, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, Belarus is ready to negotiate in all areas in which Thailand would want to cooperate.
Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that Prawit Wongsuwan’s visit would be a starting point for establishing a legal framework, and invited him to make suggestions about new areas of cooperation.
In his turn, the honoured guest said that Thailand was very interested in military-industrial cooperation, and expressed a desire to familiarise himself with Belarusian-made equipment and military systems during his visit.
The same day, the Thai delegation held talks with the Goscomvoyenprom senior officials, during which they discussed the prospects for bilateral military-technical cooperation.
The agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on military-technical cooperation was signed with the aim to set conditions favourable for cooperation in this field.
The document was signed by First Deputy Chairman of Goscomvoyenprom Igor Bykov and Director of Joint Logistics Directorate, Royal Thai Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Navapoj Damrongpong.
The Thai government delegation also visited a number of Belarusian defence companies, where the members of the delegation familiarised themselves with the capabilities in the development and manufacture of military products.
