Belarus, Russia discuss cooperation in foreign military equipment markets

From 5 to 8 October 2021, Minsk and Grodno hosted the 21st meeting of the Belarusian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation. Members of the national parts of the commission, representatives of ministries, departments and organisations of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation took part in its work.

The Belarusian part of the commission was headed by SAMI Minister Dmitry Pantus and the Russian one – by the Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugaev.

On 7 October, at the meeting between Dmitry Pantus and Dmitry Shugaev, the parties noted the high level of achieved interaction, confirmed mutual interest in the further development of military-technical cooperation between our countries, summed up the results of the work of the expert group and focused the attention on the most important issues on the agenda.

At the plenary meeting of the commission, about 40 issues of various topics were considered.

The parties summed up the results of the implementation of the agreements reached at the 20th meeting of the commission, and noted the significance of the work done, identified promising areas for further mutually beneficial cooperation and developed approaches to solving the problems reflected in the final protocol, signed by Dmitry Pantus and Dmitry Shugaev.

The parties have developed a number of algorithms to improve the competence of Belarusian enterprises in the field of repair and maintenance of advanced military equipment, as well as cooperation in the markets of third countries, including in the context of the sanctions pressure of the collective West on both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

The issues for improvement and further development of the current contractual legal and regulatory framework concerninig possible adjustments to individual regulations were considered separately.

The next, 22nd meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation will be held in the Russian Federation.
