Belarus and Kazakhstan Strengthen Military-Technical Contacts

In early October 2019, Nur-Sultan hosted the 10th meeting of the subcommission on military-technical cooperation of the Belarus-Kazakhstan Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation under the chairmanship of Vice Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Talgat Zhanzhumenov and Deputy Minister of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry (SAMI) Dmitry Pantus. It was also attended by representatives of state bodies and leading defence enterprises of the two countries.

The parties discussed a number of issues in bilateral activities in the military-technical sphere, including mutual supplies, joint production, as well as the localisation of certain types of production in Kazakhstan and Belarus. The planned and progressive cooperation in this direction was noted. There is also strengthening of cooperative ties between defence companies for the production of military and dual purpose products both for the law enforcement agencies of these countries and for world markets between countries. An agreement was reached on the practical implementation in Kazakhstan of joint projects for the localisation of repair production and maintenance of aircraft, radar systems, as well as counter-UAV systems.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed. The participants decided to study the issue of broadening the powers of the subcommission and the creation of the intergovernmental Belarus-Kazakhstan commission on military-technical cooperation.
