Goscomvoyenprom Hosts First Meeting of MILEX 2019 Exhibition Organising Committee

On 24 July, the first meeting of the organising committee for the preparation and holding of the 9th International Military Exhibition MILEX 2019 was held in the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee (Goscomvoyenprom) under the leadership of Igor Demidenko, First Deputy Chairman of Goscomvoyenprom and deputy chairman of the organising committee.
The meeting was attended by representatives of interested ministries and agencies, Goscomvoyenprom’s departments and special exporters, as well as representatives of the BelExpo National Exhibition Centre.
The committee members analysed the implementation of the plan for the preparation and holding of the exhibition, heard a report of BelExpo’s representatives on the preparations for the exhibition, and also agreed actions aimed at improving the effectiveness of activities at the preparation stage.
Speaking at the meeting, Igor Demidenko informed the audience of the idea of the exhibition and told about the main activities of the preparation plan for MILEX 2019.
The organising committee was set up under the Belarusian Prime Minister’s Order No. 162r of 8 June 2018 “On Holding the 9th International Military Exhibition MILEX 2019”. Oleg Dvigalev, Chairman of Goscomvoyenprom, was appointed the chairman of the committee.
The relevant order assigned the specified organising committee the task of preparing and holding the 9th International Military Exhibition MILEX 2019 from 15 to 18 May 2019 in Minsk.
Within the framework of the exhibition, it is also planned to hold the 8th International Scientific Conference on Military-Technical, Defence and Security Issues and Dual-Use Technologies.
According to Igor Demidenko, the exhibition aims to showcase products made by defence companies and companies manufacturing dual-use goods, to assist in establishing links between arms producers and customers, to familiarise the public with new solutions in the field of high technologies, to demonstrate the capabilities of companies specialising in the modernisation and repair of military and special equipment, to conclude contracts for the upgrade of weapons, to promote military and special equipment and enhance the prestige of the army.
The exhibition organisers are the Belarusian State Military Industrial Committee, the Belarusian Defence Ministry and the BelExpo National Exhibition Centre. The general sponsor is State-owned Foreign Trade Unitary Enterprise Belspetsvneshtechnika (SFTUE Belspetsvneshtechnika). The main media partner is the Russian specialised magazine Natsionalnaya Oborona.
The official opening ceremony is to be held on 15 May 2019 at the Stalin Line historical and cultural complex.
The exhibition is to take place in the Minsk Arena multifunctional cultural and sports complex (111, Pobediteley Avenue, Minsk, the speed skating stadium of 12,000 m²) and the adjacent open area (more than 5,000 m²).
As envisioned by the organisers, a static display will show the current trends in the international arms markets and the capabilities of the Belarusian defence industry to demonstrate the achievements – both the latest solutions and those developed earlier and currently in demand in the foreign markets – of the Belarusian defence companies in the production of high-tech special and dual-use products and the modernisation of military and special equipment.
Exhibitors are required to show fundamentally new products and advanced high-tech models of weapons and equipment that are in demand in the international arms markets and demonstrate the capabilities of the Belarusian defence industry.
Military and special equipment should be promoted within the framework of integrated system projects and lines of arms development identified by the Defence Sector and Goscomvoyenprom Development Programme till 2020. Products on display should demonstrate the meaningful results of scientific-technical, scientific-industrial and intersectoral cooperation.
It is proposed that the exhibition should focus on the following key areas of arms development:
·        short-range ballistic missile systems and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS)
·        surface-to-air missile systems
·        advanced anti-tank weapons
·        radar surveillance, signals intelligence (SIGINT) and electronic warfare (EW) systems
·        light armoured vehicles of various classes and purposes based on a common chassis and integrated with individual and group soldier systems
·        robotic and unmanned equipment combined into a network of combat and support platforms
·        weapons using new physical principles, non-lethal weapons
·        C4ISR systems, information support systems
·        cyber security
According to BelExpo, which is a joint promoter of the exhibition, it is planned to extend the scope of the MILEX 2019 exhibition by adding a new segment – Safety and Security.
During the meeting, proposals were agreed on the further preparation for the exhibition.
