558 ARP’s Innovative Solutions Being Introduced into Production

This year’s motto in Belarus is ‘Year of Science to Economy’. Today, many things are within the power of Belarusian scientists. They are directly involved in the development of world-class innovations. Particular attention is paid to the introduction of advanced high-tech solutions into production.
Historically, cutting-edge scientific ideas are concentrated in the defence sector. This thesis is confirmed by the results of various competitions of innovative projects. The results of the competitions have been summed up ahead of the Belarusian Science Day.
The results of the seventh National Competition of Innovative Projects were summed up in December 2016. The competition was held by the State Committee on Science and Technology. In total, 172 applications were submitted, of which 34 projects reached the finals. The project named Restoration of Steel Aircraft Components by Gas-Dynamic Method is among finalists in the Mechanical Engineering and Metal Processing nomination.
The innovative project is a collaborative effort of Chief of the Technical Bureau at the 558 Aircraft Repair Plant Sergei Yurkevich, researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel Viktor Yasnov, and scientists of the Vitebsk-based Institute of Technical Acoustics of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences. According to experts, the project is unequalled anywhere in the world.
In this competition, Sergei Yurkevich has represented the 558 ARP for the third time. He has twice reached the finals.
The team of the 558 Aircraft Repair Plant, which was led by Sergei Yurkevich, in January 2017 won the 2016 Goscomvoyenprom Science and Technology Award in the category ‘Best Project in the Field of Advanced Manufacturing Methods and Resource Saving Technologies’ for the development of the chrome plating technology of parts made of titanium alloys.
The team has developed methods of identifying and removing burn marks and methods of preventing and removing dirt, as well as the technology of high-quality chrome plating of aircraft components made of titanium alloys.
The number of purchased spare parts has been significantly reduced due to the innovative technologies: about 240 parts worth about $250 thousand were produced and repaired in the period from late 2013 to early 2016.
Over the years of his work for the company, Sergei Yurkevich has published 143 papers in scientific and technical magazines, collections of scientific works of various symposia, conferences, seminars, including those in English-speaking countries. A total of 26 his solutions and technologies have been patented.
